Hi All,

Below please find a postdoctoral opportunity developing crop response funct=
ions for use in global economic and integrated assessment models. The posit=
ion will be hosted at the Joint Global Change Research Institute (JGRCI) of=
the Pacific Northwest National Laboratory (PNNL) in Maryland, and the succ=
essful candidate will also work closely with me at NASA GISS and Columbia U=
niversity in New York.

Although the web link below indicates a closing date of February 25th, they=
will likely extend this deadline by one week.

        Best regards,
            -Alex

Post Doctorate RA - Agricultural Climate Responses at the Joint Global Chan=
ge Research Institute in College Park, Maryland

The Joint Global Change Research Institute (JGCRI) in College Park, MD seek=
s a Post Doctoral research associate to conduct research on agricultural an=
d bioenergy responses to changing climate conditions in the context of inte=
grated assessment modeling. The primary duty of this position will be to de=
velop mathematical representations of the effects of climate on regional ag=
ricultural yields and to implement these response surfaces in a global inte=
grated assessment model, the Global Change Assessment Model (GCAM). The suc=
cessful candidate will survey and synthesize a range of different possible =
agricultural response information sources, potentially including statistica=
l analysis of historical information and output from crop models such as th=
ose included in the Agricultural Model Intercomparison Project (AgMIP). The=
analysis will be used to explore potential impacts of future climate, soci=
oeconomic, and other relevant factors on agricultural systems and bioenergy=
 production.

The successful candidate will be based at the JGCRI in College Park, Maryla=
nd, but will work closely with institutional partners at the NASA Goddard I=
nstitute for Space Studies (NASA-GISS) and Columbia University in New York,=
as well as Boston University. This is a full-time appointment, for up to t=
hree years with benefits, subject to satisfactory performance.

JGCRI houses an interdisciplinary team of researchers dedicated to understa=
nding human and Earth system interactions with an aim of addressing energy,=
environment and economic challenges and opportunities in United States and=
world-wide. One focus of JGCRI=92s research program is the continuing deve=
lopment and application of an integrated assessment computer-modeling frame=
work, the Global Change Assessment Model (GCAM), that combine models of ene=
rgy and the economy, land-use, agriculture, water, climate, air-pollution, =
and terrestrial ecosystems.

JGCRI researchers publish their findings in leading scientific journals and=
work with US Federal agencies, state governments, industry, foundations, a=
nd universities. JGCRI researchers are leaders in the international and nat=
ional climate and global change research communities through prominent role=
s in science-based integrated assessments of energy and agricultural system=
s, and water resources. The work environment at JGCRI is highly collaborati=
ve and interdisciplinary, focused on solutions to the world=92s most pressi=
ng challenges associated with energy, water and environment. Located in Col=
lege Park, Maryland, JGCRI is a partnership between the Pacific Northwest N=
ational Laboratory of the US Department of Energy and the University of Mar=
yland at College Park.
