Description: The Center for Global Trade Analysis<https://www.gtap.agecon.purdue.edu/about/center.asp>, housed in the Department of Agricultural Economics<https://ag.purdue.edu/agecon/Pages/default.aspx> at Purdue University<http://www.purdue.edu/>, is the home of the Global Trade Analysis Project (GTAP)<https://www.gtap.agecon.purdue.edu/default.asp>, a global network of researchers and policy makers conducting quantitative analysis of international policy issues. The data team member will contribute to the maintenance, development and documentation of the GTAP Data Base<https://www.gtap.agecon.purdue.edu/databases/default.asp> and related data and software products through direct contribution and collaboration with external contributors; maintain an active research agenda in an area of interest to the Center; and participate in GTAP outreach activities including communication with stakeholders and other experts and teaching in the GTAP short courses.



Qualifications:

Required:

*         Master's degree in economics, agricultural economics, operations research, industrial engineering, computer science, or a related discipline.

*         Three years of economic research experience, with an emphasis on economic modeling.

*         Experience should cover one or more of the following economic domains: input-output economics, energy economics, and/or the economics of trade and protection.

*         Some experience dealing with large data sets and constrained optimization or equivalent.

*         Demonstrated aptitude in quantitative economics.

*         Knowledge of mathematical programming, scripting languages such as Perl or Python, very high-level programming languages such as GEMPACK, GAMS, R, or MATLAB, use of software development tools such as build management tools, version management tools, or shell scripting.

*         Excellent customer service skills and professionalism in dealing with external business partners, students, faculty and staff.

*         Exceptional interpersonal skills with the ability to influence and build working relationships among a diverse workforce at all levels.

*         Strong organizational and time management skills with emphasis on accuracy and attention to detail.

*         Motivated individual with ability to efficiently multi task, work under pressure, handle frequent interruptions and meet deadlines.

*         Ability to identify and determine problems, analyze information and implement solutions.

*         Capable of taking initiative, assuming responsibility and handling confidential information with discretion.

*         Ability to work independently and contribute to a team environment.



Preferred:

*         Three years of economic research experience, in global economic analysis, with an emphasis on economic modeling.

*         Experience dealing with large data sets in Input-Output tables.
