Dear colleagues,

I'm recruiting 4 PhD students for global agricultural modeling =

osition>.
Please distribute to potential candidates.

Thanks so much,

The Potsdam Institute for Climate Impact Research (PIK) is a member of =

the Leibniz Association. With around 400 employees, it is one of the =

world's leading research institutes in its field and generates knowledge =

as a basis for policy, economy and society. At PIK, researchers from the =

natural and the social sciences work together across disciplines.

The Potsdam Institute for Climate Impact Research is seeking to fill

**

*4 PhD student positions*

The department of Climate Impacts and Vulnerabilities invites applicants =

for *four PhD positions* as part of a newly funded project to study =

agricultural management options for greenhouse gas mitigation at the =

global scale. Agriculture will have to increase production to meet the =

demand for food, fuels and material of growing and richer populations =

while simultaneously increasing resource conservation and sustainability =

and adjust production methods to climate change. Agricultural management =

is at the core of these challenges and will have to be studied in a =

global context. The successful candidates will work with a global =

gridded crop simulation model; closely cooperate within the newly found =

research group, as well as with other scientists at PIK and with =

international scientific collaborators (e.g. in AgMIP).

The successful applicants will have a university degree in Agronomy, =

Soil sciences, Agricultural sciences, Geoecology, or a related =

discipline. A background in scientific modeling, programming and/or data =

analysis is desirable. We expect good skills in working with computers =

(Unix/Linux) and scientific programming (C++, R, ...). The working =

language is English.

*Payment will be based on German Public Tariff system (0.5 TV-L E13).*

The positions are funded on the basis of fixed term contracts for 36 =

months starting as soon as possible.

Interested candidates should send their complete application by email, =

including C.V., a short letter of motivation and a reference from a =

former supervisor, to:

PIK addresses crucial scientific questions in the fields of global =

change, climate impacts and sustainable development. Researchers from =

the natural and social sciences work together to generate =

interdisciplinary insights and to provide society with sound information =

for decision making. The institute is located on a scientific campus in =

a forest in Potsdam, just outside Berlin, Germany. PIK seeks to increase =

the number of women in those areas where they are underrepresented and =

therefore explicitly encourages women to apply. Applications of disabled =

persons with equal qualifications will be favorably regarded.
