POSITION DESCRIPTION

International Ag Systems Scientists, Dept. Crop and Soil Sciences,
Michigan State University

A three year Postdoctoral Research Associate Position in International
Agricultural Systems Science, based in the department of Crop and Soil
Sciences in the College of Agriculture and Natural Resources at
Michigan State University.
Responsibilities: The successful candidate is expected to develop a
vigorous research program addressing systems agronomy in the Global
South. Examples of research areas include ecological approaches to
improving farming system resilience through conservation agriculture,
and complementary combinations of plants, animals, water, and soil
organisms that support crop production and quality, as well as
sustainability. This could include strategic and adaptive research on
agronomy of cereal and legume crops, or addressing constraints to soil
productivity in tropical agro-ecosystems. Leadership will be expected
in designing, testing and dissemination of integrated crop and soil
management options relevant to smallholder farmers. Areas of expertise
might include systems analysis, participatory action research, or
developing analytical tools and practices supporting ecological
intensification. A significant opportunity for the successful
candidate will be on-going multi-stakeholder research supported by
USAID through Feed the Future Initiatives in Africa. It is anticipated
that an opportunity will arise in the future for a fixed-term faculty
position in this research area at MSU.
Qualifications: Applicants must have an earned doctorate in agronomy,
soil science, agricultural ecology or a related field, and show
evidence of excellence in research and agricultural development.
Experience in tropical agroecosystems is essential. The successful
candidate is expected to have strong oral and written communication
skills as well as analytical expertise.  Evidence of grantsmanship and
leadership in collaborative research endeavors is a plus.
Application Procedure: Qualified individuals should submit the
following: a letter of application, curriculum vitae, and three
referees contact information.  Applications should be submitted
electronically to: snapp at msu.edu<mailto:snapp at msu.edu>, attention Dr.
Sieglinde Snapp, Department of Crop and Soil Sciences, W.K. Kellogg
